I've just discovered a new medium called Pebeo Mixed Media and it is dynamic! The beauty of these paints is that they move with their own creative force. Their line of Vitrail paints are high gloss with opalescent or transparent effects. They can resemble stained glass, especially when mixed with resin.
The Fantasy line is made of Prisme and Moon colors. These paints contain mica and self-manipulate to create very cool effects. Combine a Prisme or Moon color with a Vitrail and the magic begins.
This underwater scene was my first attempt at working with this medium. I wanted to experiment and just have fun with it.
For the background water, I painted the canvas with regular acrylic paints of turquoise, sky blue, and viridian green. I just wanted to cover the canvas. When that was dry, I applied Vitrail cobalt blue with a lightening medium over the entire board (except for my outlines of the fish and coral). The lightening medium lightens and thins the Vitrail paint which is very dark.
So much for my first attempt at working with materials that are very different from what I'm used to. There are things I like about the finished work and some things I would change. But, that's what learning and experimentation is all about. I love the fluidity of Pebeo paints and am intrigued by the possibilities. Here's to new experiences and discoveries in the coming year!
